Enhancing Teaching and Learning @ SSEF Punjabi School through an ICT-enabled Curriculum
by Singapore Sikh Education Foundation | Grant Amount Awarded: $25,000
The Singapore Sikh Education Foundation (SSEF) is a community-led organisation committed to providing quality Punjabi language education aligned with Ministry of Education (MOE) syllabus requirements. As Punjabi is taught primarily during weekends and many students have limited exposure to the language at home, traditional classroom instruction alone has been insufficient in building fluency, confidence, and oral proficiency.

To address this challenge, SSEF embarked on an ICT-enabled curriculum project supported by a $25,000 grant from the SCIF. The project aimed to extend learning beyond the classroom through a blended learning model that integrates in-person instruction with guided, independent home-based learning.

The grant enabled the development and implementation of a custom Learning Management System (LMS), featuring teacher-created content, interactive learning resources, and assessment tools focused on reading, listening, and speaking skills. During Covid-19 school closures from May to August 2021, the LMS became a critical platform supporting both live and self-paced learning. SSEF also introduced iPads and gamified learning approaches to support students who were struggling, helping to re-engage learners and spark renewed interest in Punjabi language learning.

Beyond its immediate impact, the project has, the project has strengthened teachers’ digital capabilities and laid the groundwork for sustainable, future-ready language education. SSEF continues to refine digital resources, support educators, and maintain learning infrastructure. The project has also enabled knowledge-sharing with other NTIL groups exploring similar models. SINDA’s support has played a vital role in advancing inclusive, technology-enabled language education for the community.
